Privacy, in Plain English

Last Updated: July 21, 2026

Dating means trusting someone with a little bit of yourself. Before you ever walk into one of our New Jersey speed dating nights, we want you to know exactly what NJ First Dates (njfirstdates.com) does with your information — no fine-print games, no buried surprises. This page is that promise, written the way we’d explain it to you across a table.

The 30-second version

  • We collect what we need to run our events and help you meet people — nothing we can’t explain.
  • We share your contact details with another guest only when the two of you match. No match, no sharing.
  • We never sell or rent your information. Not to advertisers, not to anyone.
  • You can see, fix, or delete your info, and opt out of promos, any time — just ask.

What we collect (and why)

We keep our data collection to what actually helps us throw a good event and make good introductions. Here’s the whole list.

What you tell us when you sign up

When you register for an event or reach out to us, you give us details like your name, email address, and phone number, along with your age, the gender you identify as, and who you’re hoping to meet. We use this to confirm you’re eligible, get you into the right room, and run the matching afterward.

Your event signups and activity

We keep a record of which events you’ve booked, whether you attended, and the “yes / no” selections you make on your match card during the event. That’s the raw material our matching runs on.

Payments

When you pay for a ticket, your card details go straight to our third-party payment processor — we never see or store your full card number. We keep only what we need for a receipt and our own records, such as the fact that a payment was made and for which event.

How you use the site

Like most websites, ours automatically notes things like your IP address, browser and device type, and which pages you visited. This is ordinary technical housekeeping that helps the site work and helps us spot problems. More on cookies below.

How we put it to work

Everything we collect points back to a handful of jobs:

  • Registering you for events and confirming your spot
  • Running the night itself and processing your match selections
  • Taking payment and sending you a receipt
  • Sending service messages — booking confirmations, reminders, schedule changes, and your match results
  • Answering your questions and helping when something goes sideways
  • Letting you know about upcoming events and offers, if you’ve opted in
  • Keeping the site secure and meeting our legal obligations

How matching works — the mutual-match rule

This is the most important thing on the page, so we’ll say it plainly. During an event you mark, privately, who you’d like to see again. After the event, we compare selections.

We share contact information between two guests only when both of you picked each other. When that mutual match happens, we pass along each person’s first name, email address, and phone number so you can take it from there.

If the interest isn’t mutual, nothing is shared — the other person never learns you selected them, and you never learn who selected you. Your picks stay confidential either way. By joining an event, you’re agreeing to this exchange, because it’s the whole point of speed dating.

When we share information (and when we never do)

Outside of a mutual match, the only times your information leaves our hands are these:

  • Event venues: We host at bars, restaurants, and event spaces across New Jersey. We may share a headcount and a first-name guest list so the venue can seat and welcome you — not your contact details.
  • Service providers: Trusted companies that help us operate — our payment processor, email delivery, and website hosting — handle certain data on our behalf. They’re only allowed to use it to do that job for us.
  • Legal reasons: If the law or a valid request from a court or government authority requires it, or if we need to protect the safety of our guests or our rights, we may disclose information.
  • A change in ownership: If NJ First Dates is ever sold or merged, your information could transfer as part of that deal. We’d let you know.

What we will never do is sell, rent, or trade your personal information. There’s no advertiser list, no data broker, no exceptions.

Cookies and analytics

We use cookies — small files your browser stores — to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and understand which parts of the site people actually use so we can make it better. We may use analytics tools that rely on these cookies to see general traffic patterns. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings; just know that some features may not work as smoothly if you do.

Your choices and rights

Your information is yours. At any time you can:

  • See it — ask for a copy of what we hold about you
  • Fix it — correct anything that’s wrong or out of date
  • Delete it — ask us to erase your information (some records we may need to keep for legal or accounting reasons)
  • Opt out of promos — click unsubscribe in any marketing email, or tell us directly

Just reach out and we’ll take care of it. One note: even if you opt out of promotional email, we’ll still send the essential service messages tied to events you’ve booked — confirmations, reminders, and match results.

How long we keep it

We hold onto your information only as long as it’s useful for the reasons above — running your events, honoring matches, keeping accurate payment records, and meeting legal requirements. When it’s no longer needed, we securely delete it or strip it of anything that identifies you.

Keeping your information safe

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards — encryption in transit, protected servers, and access limited to the people who need it — to guard your information. No system online is ever completely bulletproof, so we can’t promise perfection, but we take this seriously and work to keep your data protected.

Grown-ups only

NJ First Dates events are for adults, and every event has a minimum age (generally 21+, sometimes 18+ depending on the venue and event). Our services aren’t meant for anyone under 18, and we don’t knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe someone underage has given us their information, please contact us and we’ll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we update how we handle your information, we’ll post the revised policy here and refresh the “Last Updated” date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll do our best to give you a heads-up by email. It’s worth a look now and then.

Governing law

NJ First Dates is a New Jersey company, and this Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
